WHY THIS MATTERS
Every year, around one in five New Zealanders experience some form of mental distress. It could be a friend, a workmate, a family member, or someone on your sports team.
For some people, those struggles can become overwhelming, and sadly each year Hawke’s Bay loses around 30 people to suspected suicide.
At Mates4Life, we provide practical training to recognise the signs someone is struggling, know how to have a conversation with them about it, and how to keep them safe and connect them to support.
We believe everyone can help prevent suicide
if they know what to look for and how to help.

Mates4Life is a suicide prevention programme delivered to workplaces and organisations.
Mates of Hawke’s Bay Charitable Trust is the not-for-profit entity behind Mates4Life that enables it to be delivered at NO COST to the employer or organisation.
Mates4Life aims to provide a long-term, sustainable, no-barriers suicide prevention training approach that is specific to the needs of workplaces and communities.
